Bandits Split DH with Cavs

Joe Christensen opened the 2009 Wisconsin State League season by tossing a complete game, tallying eight strikeouts along the way, and leading the Bandits to a 3-1 victory over the Eau Claire Cavaliers.  Kyle Schroeder was 2x2 in the game.  The Bandits and Cavs were tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when, with two outs, Doug Bloom reached first after being hit by the pitch.  He stole second and scored on a Nat Richter single.  Richter then stole second and scored on a Kyle Schroeder single.

Game two wasn't quite as kind as the Cavs topped the Bandits by a score of 6-2.  Nat Richter drove in both of the Bandits runs with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning that tied the game at the time.  With the Bandits down 3-2 but with runners and first and third with no outs, the Cavs worked out of the trouble with two short flyballs.  The Bandits would not threaten the remainder of the game as the Cavs posted another three runs over the final two innings.

The two teams meet again tomorrow at noon at Municipal Field to conclude the four game series with another doubleheader.  Matt Phipps and Andrew Wyman are the scheduled starters for the Bandits.
