Lombard Takes Two from Bandits

The visiting Lombard Orioles swept a Saturday doubleheader at Municipal Field against the Bandits by scores of 7-1 and 5-3.  In game one, Orioles pitcher Ian Kroll (recently selected in the 7th Round of the MLB Draft by the Oakland A's) tossed a complete game win.  The Bandits scored their lone run when Brock Wetenkamp reached after being hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a Donovan Strouf single.  Jayme Sukowaty took the loss but pitched effectively, recording nine strikeouts and only one walk.

In game two, the  Bandits would tie the game at 3-3 after five innings but Lombard DH Nate Roberts would lead off the top of the sixth inning with a homerun on the first pitch delivered by Mike Ruzek that would give Lombard the lead it needed as Lombard's bullpen struck out the final six batters to end the game.  Ruzek pitched seven innings, giving up only two earned runs and striking out four and walking three batters in his first start in a Bandits uniform.

The two teams face off again tomorrow on Military Appreciation Day.  Scheduled starters are Matt Phipps and Andrew Wyman.
