Menasha Rallies in Ninth, Leads Series 1-0

 The Bandits took a 6-5 lead into the top of the ninth inning but couldn't hold on as the Macs plated three runs to win the ballgame by a score of 8-6 and put the Bandits on the brink of elimination in the 2009 season.  The game went back and forth all night as the Bandits jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Doug Bloom scored on a Max Stepan single.  Menasha would answer in the top of the second with a pair of solo homers off starter CJ Marx by Nick Beeman and Jared Surman.  The Macs would tack on two more runs in the fourth inning, but the Bandits answered with two in the bottom of the inning to keep the game within one.  Matt Roberts came on in relief of Marx in the top of the sixth and put the Macs down easily and then Brad Liermann hit his second homer of the season, a two run shot, in the bottom of the sixth to put the Bandits up by one.  The score would stay that way until the top of the ninth when Macs centerfielder Ryan Hinske would lead off with a single and advance to second on an error.  Another single and error later and the Macs had plated three runs and taken a two-run the lead.  The Bandits were able to get the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but Stepan hit a deep fly ball to left that was caught just in front of the track for the final out.

Offensively, the Bandits were led by Josh Krowiorz who was 3x4 and Max Stepan who was 2x4.  Brad Lierman was 2x4 with a homerun and Sam Spurney was 1x3 with a double.

This marks the third consecutive year that the Bandits have dropped the first game in a playoff series.  In all previous years, the Bandits have rallied to win in three games.  They will have to do it all on the road this year as they play at Menasha Sunday night at 7:15 and if they win, they will return to Menasha for the decisive game, again at 7:15.
